What is Delta-8?

If you are into vaping and a fan of CBD, THC and cannabinoids in all their forms, you have probably heard about delta-8. You may have heard that delta-8 provides users with a new and better kind of high, or that it can help you mellow out after a hard day at work or a difficult day at school.

So, what is delta-8, and why is it getting so much attention from those in the vaping community? Here are some key things you need to know about this unique cannabinoid. Delta-8 is a compound derived from the hemp plant, and it is similar to delta-9 THC, the compound in hemp that can get an individual high. It has grown in popularity because for many, it seems to have the positive effects of THC without the negative aspects that some experience like anxiety or paranoia. According to Leafly.com, their similarity lies in their chemical structures. They both have a double bond, but delta-8 causes a less potent intoxicating effect because the location of the double bond is in a different location than delta-9. Delta-8 has been shown to produce what some call a “smoother, milder high.” Delta-8 can be purchased in many of the same forms as traditional hemp products, but vape carts and gummies are the most common.

Is Delta-8 Legal?

You may have also heard that unlike traditional THC, the delta-8 form of THC is legal even in states that have not decriminalized other forms of marijuana. But when it comes to the legal status of delta-8, the answer is not as easy or straightforward as you might think, and for now, the legal status remains murky. Because delta-8 can be extracted from either hemp or cannabis, it can receive some legal protection from a 2018 farm bill that allows for hemp to be legally grown and used for extractions all over the United States. According to Lealfly.com, nearly all delta-8 THC on the market today is manufactured from hemp-derived CBD, which makes it part of a federally legal chain of origin. Yet, some states are working to enact their own laws restricting the use of this product.

It’s important to note that research regarding delta-8 is ongoing, and more is needed to know exactly how it interacts with the body, depending on other factors involved. If you want to understand more about delta-8 and the legality in your state, stop by or contact us for more information.
